Richard Forbes joins Countrywide’s new advocacy function to support distributor Members nationwide.
Countrywide today announced the establishment of a dedicated advocacy function to support and represent its family-owned foodservice distributor Members across Australia.

The new function will be guided by a newly formed Member Advocacy Council, ensuring the work remains firmly focused on the issues that matter most to independent food distributors, their customers and the communities they serve.
Countrywide is pleased to welcome Richard Forbes, who has led advocacy for Australia’s independent food distribution sector for the past six years as CEO of the Independent Food Distributors Association (IFDA). Richard brings extensive experience, strong industry relationships and a deep understanding of the issues facing independent distributors across Australia. In this role, Richard’s advocacy work will focus on engaging with state and federal governments, stakeholder relations and media engagement.
“Advocacy plays an important role in supporting the long-term success of independent food distributors, and this new function ensures our Members are at the centre of that work” said Jeff Dhu, Chief Executive Officer, Countrywide. “Richard’s experience and standing in the sector have been invaluable, and we’re pleased he’s continuing that work as part of our team.”
Richard Forbes said independent food distributors continue to play a critical role in Australia’s food supply chain. “These businesses keep restaurants, cafes, institutions and communities supplied every day, while creating local jobs and supporting regional economies”, he said.
“I’m excited to continue this advocacy work with Countrywide and collaborate with Members through the Member Advocacy Council to ensure our efforts remain focused on the priorities and challenges facing independent distributors across Australia.”
Independent food distributors are a critical part of Australia’s foodservice supply chain, serving not only hospitality businesses but also essential community institutions including hospitals, aged care facilities and schools. Countrywide’s new advocacy function will focus on supporting a strong, sustainable and competitive sector that continues to deliver value to customers and communities nationwide.
