24-Apr-08: Countrywide Forms New Super Group

A Half Billion Dollars of Focused Sales

Countrywide - Australia's foremost buying and marketing group continues to lead the foodservice industry with a brand new strategic innovation. Over twenty of the best and largest Countrywide distributors will now focus their volume purchasing through the formation of a "Super Group" to deliver a decisive answer to the industry's unrelenting pressure to increase sales and deliver benefits to its members and supplier partners.

Over the last decade, the foodservice industry has seen a number of changes in the groups that service Australia, including the break up and reformation of new groups and significant changes in senior management. Throughout this volatile period, Countrywide has been a solid, cohesive and growing group with focused commitment to both its recognised suppliers and end-users.

To guarantee its success, Countrywide's Super Group will have significant resources dedicated to its operations, including both staff and technology. Alan Davis will become the Super Group manager and, with nearly ten years experience at Countrywide, will drive the purchasing activities of the group. Countrywide will make new investments in technology to facilitate fast decision making on all available purchasing opportunities.

Other specific mechanics and benefits of the Super Group to its members and to Countrywide overall include the following:

  • Countrywide's Super Group members will have strict compliance requirements on purchasing activities as well as a code of conduct for their operations within the group. Failure to comply in either of these areas will result in Super Group membership being forfeited.
  • The Super Group initiative will energise Countrywide - internally as well as externally and strengthen Countrywide's ability to retain all current members.
  • The initiative will offer further incentives for the recruitment of new "volume" distributors to Countrywide.
  • Countrywide can be very proactive in responding to recognised suppliers' requests to grow the volume.

Countrywide's innovation will blur the lines between itself, as an independent in the foodservice industry and the corporate players. Countrywide's new Super Group will deliver the high-volume-fast-turn-around buying decisions that the industry suppliers need. It will give Countrywide's large members greater power to compete in the vigorous foodservice industry, whilst developing and delivering specific benefits for the wider Countrywide Group and supporting its end-users across the entire country.
